Shocking and not in a good way. Firstly when filling in the form to book the weekly cleaner I selected “I have a dog. Cleaner must not be scared of dogs”. As soon as I opened the door for the cleaner she jumped back, clearly terrified of my dog. I asked her if she was scared of dogs and she said “yes”.
After showing her around the house and running her through everything, I told her I was taking the dog out for a walk and would be back in an hour. She called me repeatedly whilst I was out asking where I was and how to clean each room. When I came back and moved the dog and my daughter upstairs so she could clean downstairs, I had a look around to see what she had done and immediately saw all the clean towels and bathrobes in a pile on the bannister, the very badly made bed, the bath mat placed on top of the face towel on the radiator, items left on top of the loo and marks in the sink. I then checked my daughters room where the mirror had smudge marks still on it and neither her bed or cot were made up. In fact it looked like she hadn’t cleaned it at all. I was fuming and debating wether to call Fantastic Cleaners on the spot and kick her out immediately or avoid the awkwardness and wait until she had gone.
The guest room bed was also not made up and eventually when she left I checked downstairs and she had left a full bin bag in the laundry basket, hadn’t cleaned the downstairs loo or any surfaces and didn’t make up the sofa. I’m actually really not sure what she did in the house for 3 1/2 hours.
When I finally managed to get hold of someone and complain, they did apologise for the quaility of the cleaner I was sent. I was told they use sub contractors so clearly there is no vetting process when it comes to hiring. I now have someone else coming later this week so we’ll see how that works out. I was only offered £10 off for all of this. Obviously that is unacceptable considering I paid £118 for the cleaning service and the yearly fee of £89 which I highly doubt I’ll continue using.
UPDATE: After talking with someone at Fantastic Cleaners they appologised for the cleaning standard and somehow convinced me to try a different cleaner this week. Which I did regrettably.
The cleaner arrived yesterday and after explaining what needing doing she started asking about my dog (who was out for a walk at the time) and seemed very nervous about his return. I reassured her to not be scared of my very soft and friendly dog and to please not hide in the laundry room or jump if she sees him (like the previous cleaner did) as that will scare him.
She proceeded to take 3 1/2 hours to clean the upstairs. Badly. She made the beds terribly, didn’t empty any bins, left dirty cleaning cloths scattered around, left things in odd places, cleaned the one bathroom I told her NOT to clean (whilst also leaving water all over the wooden floors) and left all of my daughters bath toys on the bath mat along with an abandoned cleaning product and then covered it with another bath mat?! I showed the pictures to my friend and she said “It’s like they’re playing a joke on you”.
Knowing I had guests arriving in 2 hours and still had to get ready, I started cleaning. I remade the beds, emptied the bins, put everything back to how it should be, cleaned the sitting room, entrance hall and laundry room thoroughly in the time it took her to clean the kitchen hob. If she was given 10 hours to clean the house, she would take 11. I asked her to leave so I could clean the kitchen and she got upset and asked to stay for 10 minutes longer to which I replied “what would that achieve?” She eventually left but then came back 5 minutes later saying Fantasic Cleaners said she could continue cleaning. Obviously I said absolutely not. I then cleaned the whole kitchen in 30 mins including the windows and it was spotless.
In the 12 years I’ve had cleaners, I have never experienced such a low level of cleaning - if you can even call it that.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!
