The Tokyo summer is unbearable without air conditioning, particularly with temperatures edging higher and higher, year upon year. But keeping your air conditioners in good shape is not as simple as cleaning the filters regularly because the humidity encourages mould. So when I got that familiar smell of wet socks from my air conditioner this year, I went down to the building concierge to get a recommendation for a cleaning service, and they provided me the name of a well-known company. I was surprised by how expensive it was and decided to look around on the internet, but looking around isn't easy when your Japanese skills are just passable and you're depending on machine translation. I stumbled upon Tokyo Dust Free, and shot them an email in simple Japanese + English and was surprised to get a reply in English within 24 hours. They came to my place to inspect the air conditioners the same day and sent me a quotation. To my surprise the quotation did not have the "foreigner premium" that one tends to expect in Tokyo - it was in fact more reasonable than the rates offered by the famous company suggested by my concierge. They were able to fit me in their schedule within the week and the technician turned up today. It was a lot of work and took 4 hours but the technician brought everything he needed with him including plastic sheets to protect my furniture, and left behind only clean air conditioners and a satisfied customer. My two ceiling units and two wall units are humming and cooling like new and the mould is gone - they're two-way machines and I'll be using them for warmth during the winter, and I'm ready for next summer.

Shortly after the technician left, I got a call from the operations manager following up and asking if everything was all right. I wasn't expecting that but what a great touch! I recently had all my air conditioners cleaned by Tokyo Dust Free. I decided to go with this company because they spoke English and their pricing seemed reasonable to me. All my email exchanges with them were prompt, clear, and professional. First they came out to do an inspection see if I had any questions they could answer. Then they scheduled the cleaning date. Again, they were clear and professional in their communication. When they came to clean the air conditioners, they were on time, respectful of my living spaces, and very clean. They were able to clean all my air conditioners quickly and efficiently. I am very impressed with their services. I highly recommend them and will be using them again for annual cleaning of my A/C units.
